My client is a multi-disciplinary solutions business that provides a full range of services, from consultancy, design and engineering through to manufacture, installation and on site project management. The business works in partnership with customers to deliver high quality, innovative and responsive solutions to meet individual requirements across a wide range of market sectors.

Role

To lead and direct teams of geotechnical and geo-environmental engineers, engineering geologists and civil engineers and technicians on a variety of projects, providing leadership & technical input, as required.  Also to act as line manager to team members and develop, lead and advise on personnel development and technical delivery. Also to assist the Team Leader (Geotechnical & Geo-environmental) in work winning development and maximise both company and team opportunities with Clients.

Duties

  • Act as Deputy for Team Leader where required
  • Support and lead with the Professional Heads with design innovation and training development
  • Achieve the agreed targets regarding effective delivery of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects to current standards, within agreed timescales and budgets and staff utilisation
  • Monitor project performance against contracts/project quality plans and take necessary corrective action if required
  • Secure business by developing and maintaining contacts in partnership with the Team Leader for Geotechnical & Geo-environmental and clients Directors
  • Assist in the development of staff to ensure the geotechnical and geo-environmental skills are available within the Geotechnical & Geo-environmental department to meet business objectives
  • Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of the client.
  • Lead projects on behalf of clients as directed
  • Manage deliverables within the group in quality and direction.
  • Delivery of geotechnical design for project and detailed design requirements
  • Take a Lead Engineer and CRE role on Projects
  • Take a lead role in development of Client contact and work streams within Rail, Energy and Building projects (in partnership with the Geotechnical & Geo-environmental Team Leader)
  • Develop the team of geotechnical and geo-environmental engineers through training initiatives and CPD
  • Any other reasonable duties as required 

Experience & Competencies

  • Must be a charted engineer (ICE) or chartered geologist (CGeol) or highly experienced geotechnical contractor with a proven track record
  • Significant geotechnical engineering design and site experience at Lead Designer and Management Level
  • Consultancy and contracting experience (special interest with candidates who are or have worked for the geotechnical contracting environment) and able to communicate constraints and risks within a geotechnical context
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the geotechnical aspects of civil engineering design and construction principles and standards
  • Thorough understanding and application of Eurocode and standards within the UK
  • Railway and energy sector experience preferred although interest and proven track record in other sectors also of interest
  • Able to demonstrate effective understanding and management of ground risk and solutions for high level clients (special experience of working with Main Contractors within the Civils Market).

The role is required to increase the leadership and design capability with an expanding geotechnical and geoscience design section improving design delivery and innovation to construction projects. Special skills are required to service the significant detailed design projects within a contractor design and build environment (hence the candidate must have a proven track record with working directly with and for civil contractors within the United Kingdom)
