My client is a multi-disciplinary solutions business that provides a full range of services, from consultancy, design and engineering through to manufacture, installation and on site project management. The business works in partnership with customers to deliver high quality, innovative and responsive solutions to meet individual requirements across a wide range of market sectors.

Role

 To lead and direct a team of civil engineers, graduates and technicians involved in producing engineering surveys, studies and detailed designs for highway and drainage infrastructure projects, providing overall management and serving as a point of technical excellence.

Duties

  • Maintain and coordinate a high level of health and safety within the group
  • Day to day management, planning, leading and motivating a team of civil engineers, graduates, technicians and CAD staff
  • Accountable for performance against annual plan/ team dashboard in terms of project delivery, resources and margins by monitoring team performance against programmes, contracts and project quality plans and take necessary corrective action.
  • Develop and grow the business and resource in York and beyond to achieve the long term goal of the business to support the aspirations of Regional offices
  • Assist the Head of Civil Engineering & Built Environment in work winning development and maximise both company and team opportunities with Clients.
  • Lead teams formed to delivery projects, ensuring commitments are delivered
  • Lead projects on behalf of clients as directed
  • Ensure the development of staff to ensure the skills are available within the Highways & Drainage team to meet business objectives.
  • Supervise training and competency of engineers, graduates and technicians
  • Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of the client
  • Any other duties as reasonably required 

Experience

  • Professionally qualified Chartered or Incorporated Engineer
  • Detailed knowledge of civil design principles and standards
  • Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety standards
  • Experience of Contract Conditions and attentive to Procedures and Procedures
  • Good commercial awareness including programming and delivery to budgets/timescales
  • Communication – Good communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal with excellent technical content and written English. Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy with experience in presenting to clients and an ability to persuade clients (internal and external) round to best solutions
  • Team working – Experience of team management and development working/ communicating across teams within the company to ensure delivery of projects. Actively and effectively plan work both short-term and long-term
  • Motivation – Self-motivated team player with the ability to motivate others working with minimum supervision. Providing added value in addition to current work, pro-actively seek new work using personal and team contacts.
